More about Invisalign
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign uses 3-D computer imaging technology to create a series of clear, virtually invisible aligners that are custom made for you.

Each aligner is worn for two (sometimes three) weeks.
The aligners gradually move your teeth, much as do braces.

Is Invisalign for everyone?
No. In fact, the traditional orthodontic braces remain the gold standard for straightening teeth and creating good bites.
Studies have shown that Invisalign works best for patients that already have good bites, but have mild crowding or irregularities of the teeth or spaces between the teeth.
Dr. Roman will determine if you are a candidate for Invisalign after an examination. He will also explain the pro’s and con’s of Invisalign for your teeth.

Advantages of Invisalign
No braces! So there’s no metal to get used to, it’s easier to brush and floss your teeth, and most people will not even notice that you’re in treatment—except that your smile will be getting better and better.

Disadvantages of Invisalign
While the technology continues to improve, for the very best results, most patients are better served with braces.
Cooperation is vital. If the aligners are not worn as prescribed, your beautiful new smile will remain a desire rather than become a reality.
The orthodontist has much less control with the aligners than with the traditional braces. Even with the same force applied, teeth do not all move the same. With braces, there are many more options to compensate for the variation of response between patients.
The good folks at Invisalign must realize this because the following cautionary note can be found in the Doctor’s section of their website:
“Simulated Gingiva and Tooth Movements. Actual Clinical results may vary.” |
English translation: “We promise you nothing.”
The above notwithstanding, Invisalign is an amazing technology, which is in its infancy. Dr. Roman will let you know if it’s "old" enough for you!
